Nuclear Family

Nuclear Family is a portrait of the present-day Furgerson family. Through archival photographs and documents, the story of the Hayashi/Nemoto and Furgerson Family's history is realized. The Hayashi Nemoto family was a well-known and respected family within the Manzanar Internment Camp during World War Two, where they were placed after being forcibly removed from their home in Los Angeles because of their Japanese heritage. On the other side of the country, the Furgerson family was employed in the Manhattan Project for the production of the atomic bomb. Only a few years later the family would become one when Kathy Hayashi and George Furgerson would marry.
